bound4blue eSAIL Secures DNV Type Approval
bound4blue has received Type Approval Design Certification (TADC) from DNV for its Model 3-24 eSAIL®.

The certification, presented during Posidonia in Athens, confirms the suction sail’s compliance with DNV classification requirements covering safety, structural integrity and design robustness.

The Model 3 range has been developed for larger vessels seeking greater propulsive support from wind power, with units ranging from 24 to 36 metres in height.

The Model 3-24 is the first installation from the new series, with two units fitted onboard the DNV-classed Klaveness Combination Carriers newbuild MV Baltazar in April.

According to bound4blue, the updated design features an expanded sail surface area and optimised aerodynamic profile intended to increase lift generation, supporting lower fuel consumption and emissions reductions across multiple vessel segments.

José Miguel Bermúdez, CEO and Co-Founder of bound4blue, said: “Achieving Type Approval from DNV for our most advanced installed eSAIL® is an important step forward, both for us and shipowners looking to harness optimal benefits from wind propulsion.

“Independent validation from a leading classification society like DNV confirms that the technology meets relevant standards for reliability and performance.”
