CMA CGM Group has expanded its European air freight capacity by acquiring the cargo operations of Air Belgium, following approval from the Brabant Wallon Commercial Court.
The move reportedly secures 124 jobs—72 of which are pilot roles—and ensures the long-term future of air freight activity in Belgium under the Air Belgium brand, now integrated into CMA CGM’s specialised air cargo division.
The Air Belgium name, a fixture in the Belgian aviation landscape, will be retained. This decision leverages the company’s local expertise and preserves continuity for clients and staff alike.
The newly integrated aircraft will operate from Belgium, creating bespoke air freight services for forwarders, shippers, and wider supply chain partners.

The acquisition builds on the existing relationship between the two companies, dating back to 2021–2023.
CMA CGM AIR CARGO, launched in March 2021, complements the Group’s wider logistics services, offering integrated solutions that span maritime, land, and air transport.
Its current fleet of nine aircraft is set to expand with the addition of new Boeing 777Fs and, from 2027, eight Airbus A350Fs.
The news follows another recent major development for CMA CGM, which has completed the acquisition of approximately 47.9 per cent of Santos Brasil Participações S/A (Santos Brasil).
