Columbia Group has appointed Christina Orfanidou to lead its AI strategy and implementation, focusing on practical, business-led solutions that deliver measurable value.
In her role, she will drive productivity, modernise workflows, and ensure AI is deployed ethically, transparently, and in line with evolving global regulations.
Before joining Columbia Group, Orfanidou served as Head of AI Services at Deloitte Cyprus.
She has also led major European Commission initiatives, working with agencies including ACER, DG CONNECT, and EFSA, where she advanced AI adoption supported by robust data governance frameworks.
In her new role, Orfanidou aims to show how AI can dramatically improve efficiency, cutting document production from hours to minutes while freeing employees to focus on strategic, high-value work.
Orfanidou said: “AI is not about technology for technology’s sake. At Columbia Group, we see AI as a productivity and empowerment tool – one that supports our people, solves real operational challenges, and modernises shipping for the next generation of talent.”

Orfanidou is spearheading the creation of an AI factory within Columbia Group, a collaborative model embedded in business units to develop tailored AI solutions.
This ensures AI is fully integrated into operations rather than siloed in standalone technical teams, enabling productivity growth without reliance on continuous hiring.
Initial AI initiatives will target internal operations, where risks are lower, and impact is immediate. Projects include AI agents for repetitive office tasks, modernised crewing assignment systems, and advanced internal knowledge management tools.
Mark O’Neil, CEO and President of Columbia Group, said: “Christina’s appointment reflects our commitment to purposeful, responsible AI. Under her leadership, AI is becoming a powerful enabler across our business—boosting productivity, supporting sustainability, and modernising maritime operations — while ensuring strong governance, transparency, and human oversight remain central.”
