Damen Marine Components (DMC) has signed contracts to supply rudder, steering and nozzle systems for 14 newbuild multi-purpose vessels at two Indian shipyards.
The orders mark milestone collaborations for DMC with both Udupi Cochin Shipyard and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders.
At Udupi Cochin Shipyard, part of Cochin Shipyard Ltd, DMC will provide equipment for eight 6,300 DWT vessels commissioned by a Scandinavian owner.
This deal represents the first contract between DMC and the yard.
The company’s piston-type steering gear and Atlantic-type rudders, adapted to the ships’ design, will be manufactured at DMC Jiangyin in China.

DMC Sales Manager Bogdan Mocanu commented: “We have been active in India for 20 years and growing our footprint with this project for Udupi Cochin Shipyard makes us very proud. It shows our capability to work worldwide, tailoring our in-house designed equipment to the client’s wishes.”
The second contract involves six 7,500 DWT MPVs for Danish shipowner Navi Merchants, which are being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. in Mumbai. This represents the company’s first order with Mazagon Dock.
The scope of supply includes:
- Atlantic-type rudder systems and hydraulic steering gear
- Propeller nozzles to support propulsion efficiency
While steering gear will be produced at DMC’s headquarters in the Netherlands, the rudders and nozzles will be built at DMC Gdansk in Poland.
Bogdan remarked: “We’re proud to be part of these newbuilds and grateful for the trust that Navi Merchants has given us. The same goes for our first-time client Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders. This high-tech shipyard is well-known for its naval vessels – destroyers, frigates, submarines.
“Hence, when building commercial vessels, you know one thing for sure: this will be a demanding project to the highest standards. Personally I see this contract as a milestone for DMC in the Indian maritime market.”
According to DMC, all supplied components will align with the latest class requirements. Phased deliveries are expected to begin later in 2025.
