Freight mobility company, Einride, has announced a partnership with DP World to electrify inter-terminal container flows at Jebel Ali Port.

This initiative represents the largest deployment of electric, autonomous freight mobility in the Middle East.

Beginning at the end of 2024, the partnership will reportedly scale to manage around 1,600 container movements daily. This will be achieved through a fleet of 100 connected electric trucks, operated via Einride Saga, a digital system designed to analyse, optimise, and maximise the efficiency of electric and autonomous freight operations.

An autonomous pilot is expected to launch in 2025.

Once fully operational, the initiative is projected to save up to 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) and 158 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOx) annually.

“DP World is dedicated to making trade smarter, faster, and more sustainable. Our partnership with Einride perfectly aligns with our vision,” added Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC.

“We have made significant progress in electrifying and automating our terminals at Jebel Ali Port. By leveraging Einride’s cutting-edge technology, we can enhance operational efficiencies, further decarbonise terminal operations, and pioneer greener practices in the logistics sector.”

Just recently, DP World announced a 130 million ($165 million) investment in three new locations in Romania to support the country’s expanding prominence as a vital European trade centre
