Evergreen Line has initiated the rollout of ORBCOMM’s smart container technology across its dry container fleet, advancing digitalisation within container shipping.
The technology enhances global operational visibility and control by providing real-time alerts for critical events such as unauthorised door openings, temperature fluctuations, shock detection, and precise location tracking.
These features are designed to improve cargo security, safeguard assets, and optimise operational efficiency.
Evergreen’s deployment involves ORBCOMM’s second-generation smart container system, which offers upgraded sensors for enhanced security and cargo integrity, longer device lifespan, and increased reliability.
The solution is engineered to reduce total cost of ownership while maximising return on investment for shipping lines.

Sameer Agrawal, ORBCOMM CEO, commented: “ORBCOMM is the only company in the world that has enabled more than 1 million smart containers to date. We are honoured to have been trusted by Evergreen to roll out smart dry containers to their fleet as well. This move signals a broader shift in the maritime industry where dry containers are rapidly evolving from static assets into smart, connected, intelligent units.
“Smart intermodal containers are no longer experimental — they are becoming the new standard. Deployments are moving beyond visibility to cargo protection and container security. This evolution reflects growing industry demand for real-time data, enhanced cargo protection and operational transparency across the global supply chain.”
