Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of Grande Michigan, an ammonia-ready Pure Car & Truck Carrier (PCTC) built by China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu.
The 220-metre vessel has a beam of 38 metres, gross tonnage of 93,145 and a service speed of 18 knots. It can transport up to 9,000 CEU across 14 decks.
The company states the vessel is capable of reducing fuel consumption by up to 50 per cent compared with earlier-generation car carriers.
Grande Michigan has received RINA’s Ammonia Ready notation, enabling future conversion to ammonia fuel. It also holds Green Plus, Green Star 3, Comfort Vibration and Comfort Noise Port class notations.

The vessel is equipped with 5 megawatt-hours (MWh) of lithium battery capacity and shore power capability for zero-emission operations in port where infrastructure is available.
Energy-efficiency measures include 2,500 square metres of solar panels, silicon-based hull coatings, an Air Lubrication System and an electronically controlled main engine fitted with SOx scrubbers and selective catalytic reduction to meet Tier III NOx requirements. It is also fitted with a gate rudder system, installed for the first time on a PCTC.
The vessel is scheduled to enter the Asia–Europe service from Taicang, China, carrying more than 7,000 vehicles and over 100 additional rolling units.
