GT Wings has introduced a ship performance assessment tool for early-stage evaluation of its AirWing™ wind-assisted propulsion system.
The underlying methodology has been verified and granted an Approval in Principle by RINA.
The tool is built on the Pelican Suite™ platform, developed by independent wind assist specialists Blue Wasp Marine.
It runs route-based simulations using a four-degrees-of-freedom (4DOF) modelling approach to estimate potential fuel savings, emissions reductions, and regulatory compliance gains across different vessel types, operating profiles, and AirWing™ configurations.
RINA’s verification confirms the methodology aligns with recognised industry standards, including MEPC circ. 896 and the ITTC Guidelines for Wind Powered Ships (2024), giving shipowners a credible basis for preliminary technical and commercial decisions.

GT Wings’ AirWing™ uses controlled suction and blowing to achieve high aerodynamic performance with a compact deck footprint.
The system has already been installed aboard Carisbrooke Shipping’s MV Vectis Progress, with additional orders placed by Grieg Maritime Group.
The company has completed more than 80 early-stage performance assessments to date, with the new tool designed to bring greater consistency and transparency to that process.
