Hapag-Lloyd is strengthening its presence in Africa with new offices in Namibia, Rwanda and Burundi.
The carrier is expanding its local customer support and network coverage across Southern and East Africa.
From 1 October 2026, Hapag-Lloyd will establish its own office in Walvis Bay, Namibia, while a new setup in Kigali, Rwanda, will serve customers in both Rwanda and Burundi.
The moves are intended to bring the carrier closer to customers in markets where trade flows and demand for international connectivity are developing.
In Namibia, the Walvis Bay office will provide a direct local presence for Hapag-Lloyd, while the Kigali operation will extend its reach into two landlocked East African markets.

The Rwanda and Burundi setup will complement the carrier’s existing network through Dar es Salaam, where Hapag-Lloyd operates two weekly services supporting imports and exports, with connections to India and the Far East.
The company said the expanded local presence will combine market-specific expertise and customer support with its wider regional and global liner network.
Jesper Kanstrup, Managing Director Sub-Region Africa at Hapag-Lloyd, said: “Strengthening our presence in Namibia, Rwanda and Burundi is an important milestone in the continued development of Hapag-Lloyd in Africa.”
“Africa is a highly diverse continent, and serving our customers successfully requires a strong understanding of the individual markets in which they operate. By strengthening our presence, we combine local industry knowledge and customer proximity with the reach of Hapag-Lloyd’s global network. Each market offers different opportunities, and this expansion reflects our long-term commitment to our customers and to Africa.”
