Hapag-Lloyd has announced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on cargo moving from the Far East to multiple Americas destinations, effective 15 June 2026 until further notice.
The surcharge applies to all container types, 20ft and 40ft dry, reefer and special equipment, including high cube, across sailings to the West Coast of South America (Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Chile), East Coast of South America, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
Cargo to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands falls under the same surcharge, effective 29 June 2026. Rates are set at $500 per 20ft container and $1,000 per 40ft container.

Ocean tariff rates, bunker-related surcharges, security surcharges and Terminal Handling Charges (THCs) remain unchanged and are published separately on Hapag-Lloyd’s online tariff platform. Local and contingency charges may also apply.
The PSS follows a broader pattern of carriers implementing surcharges ahead of peak season as trans-oceanic demand builds and network pressures, compounded by ongoing Middle East disruption, continue to push up operating costs.
