Hapag-Lloyd introduces Emergency Operation Charge
Hapag-Lloyd AG has announced the introduction of an Emergency Operation Charge (EOO/EOD) in response to rising costs across its feeder service network.

The German carrier pointed to increasing fuel expenses as a key driver behind higher operating costs, particularly on regional feeder routes that support mainline shipping services.

The surcharge will be applied on a regional basis and may affect shipments where the origin and/or destination is served via feeder connections.

The move highlights ongoing cost pressures across the container shipping sector, where carriers continue to balance operational efficiency with service reliability amid fluctuating fuel prices.

Hapag-Lloyd AG said the charge is intended to offset increased operational expenditure while maintaining service quality across its network.

In March, Hapag-Lloyd reported a Group EBITDA of €3.2 billion ($3.6 billion) and Group EBIT of €1.0 billion ($1.1 billion) for 2025, with net profit at €0.9 billion ($1.0 billion).
