Inyanga to operate Tor Boreas hybrid vessel for offshore
Inyanga Marine Energy Group has announced it will assume operational management of the newly built hybrid utility vessel Tor Boreas, an innovative addition to the offshore wind fleet.

The group will operate the vessel in partnership with Tor Group, aiming to provide advanced support for a range of offshore wind activities.

The Tor Boreas is purpose-designed for diverse operations in the sector, including geotechnical seabed surveysROV deploymentsubsea inspections, and diving projects. It features a hybrid diesel-electric powertrain and incorporates multiple advanced technologies to enhance efficiency and safety.

Richard Parkinson, CEO of Inyanga Marine Energy Group, described the Tor Boreas as setting a new benchmark for utility work vessels, highlighting its range of innovative features. The vessel is equipped with electric propulsion integrated with a dynamic positioning system, enabling it to maintain precise station during subsea operations—an approach that offers greater efficiency in terms of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

Additional enhancements include a Gyro stabilised anti-roll system, which improves operational stability and safety, particularly in challenging sea conditions. For tasks such as diving where dynamic positioning is less suitable, the vessel is fitted with a four-point mooring system.

Furthermore, Tor Boreas is designed to support extended offshore assignments, with high-quality accommodation for up to 12 client personnel. Collectively, these features place the vessel at the forefront of the workboat code for its class in terms of capability and versatility.

Built for performance, the vessel measures 26.95 metres in length with a breadth of 11 metres, a depth of 4.35 metres and a maximum draught of 3.5 metres.

Key on-board capabilities include an offshore crane, a 5 tonne hydraulic A-frametowing functionality with a 25 tonne electric aft winch, and a 17 tonne bollard pull.

Kemal Torlak, CEO of Tor Group, remarked: “We are delighted to form this new partnership with Inyanga Marine Energy Group. This state of the art vessel has been designed to meet all the offshore operational requirements of clients and exceed their expectations. Inyanga will add significant value to the vessel by supplying a highly experienced crew onboard, providing additional services such as surveying, ROV and offshore operational management.”

Torlak added: “This vessel has been designed to raise the bar for environmental standards in the workboat sector. A diesel-electric powertrain was selected to ensure optimal efficiency, while an IMO Tier III exhaust system guarantees reduced emissions during operation compared to a conventional diesel-driven vessel.”

Designed by Macduff Ship Design and constructed in Turkiye by Tor Marine (a part of Tor Group), the Tor Boreas aims to deliver cutting-edge solutions for offshore energy clients, combining innovation, operational versatility, and sustainability.
