Maersk targets China-India demand with FI2 launch
A.P. Moller – Maersk is launching a new dedicated ocean service on the China–India trade lane, with the first westbound sailing departing Shanghai on 4 June 2026.

According to Maersk, the FI2 service has been introduced to meet growing demand for additional capacity on one of Asia’s busiest bilateral trade corridors.

The weekly service will deploy six vessels, each with a nominal capacity of 4,500 TEUs, calling at Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Tanjung Pelepas, Nhava Sheva, Pipavav and Port Qasim.

It will sit alongside Maersk’s existing FI3 service, giving the carrier two direct Far East–India offerings and expanding frequency, routing flexibility and network resilience on the route.

A notable feature of FI2 is its call at Pipavav in Gujarat, which serves as an entry point to India’s Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) rail network, enabling inland reach to Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and surrounding industrial zones.

Maersk is positioning the rail integration as a door-to-door logistics offer targeting automotive, chemicals, retail and technology shippers.

Thomas Theeuwes, Managing Director, Maersk South Asia, said: “The FI2 is a direct response to what our customers want: more capacity, consistency, and connectivity, on the China-India route. By combining the weekly ocean service with our rail solution via the DFC, we are going a step further and giving our customers the true integrated logistics experience.”

The launch reflects broader momentum on the China–India trade route, where demand for reliable, high-frequency capacity has intensified as Indian importers and exporters diversify sourcing and strengthen supply chain links with Chinese manufacturing hubs.
