Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd overhaul India–Med Gemini route
A.P. Moller – Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have announced a routing adjustment for one of their shared services under the Gemini Cooperation, shifting transit to pass through the Red Sea and Suez Canal.

The change affects the IMX service, which links India and the Middle East with the Mediterranean.

The revised routing will be applied to westbound sailings starting with the vessel Albert Maersk in mid-February, and to eastbound sailings on the Astrid Maersk.

Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk plan to extend similar adjustments to the SE1 and SE3 services at a later date, where operationally feasible.

Both carriers have confirmed that the changes will be executed to minimise disruption to shippers, maintaining Gemini Cooperation’s reputation for reliable scheduling.

Safety remains a primary concern, with stringent precautions in place for crew, vessels, and cargo.

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd continue to closely monitor security conditions in the Middle East.

Any future modifications to the Gemini network will depend on stability in the Red Sea and the absence of escalating regional tensions.

Launched on 1 February 2025, the Gemini Cooperation currently operates 29 shared mainliner and 29 shared shuttle services across East–West trade routes.

Just recently, Hempel completed the first-ever application of its next-generation silicone hull coating, Hempaguard NB, on Tangier Maersk, the first of six 9,000 TEU vessels ordered by Maersk.
