A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) has begun operations at a newly developed logistics centre in Herleshausen, Hessen.
The facility’s nearly 12-metre-high racks across more than 62,000 square metres of storage space have been filling since August, with outbound distribution to German and other European delivery centres for an online retailer now underway.
The site, leased long-term within “Panattoni Park Bad Hersfeld Ost”, offers 71,800 square metres of logistics space in total, including 62,800 square metres of warehouse capacity, 2,900 square metres of office space and 6,100 square metres of mezzanine.
Located directly on the A4 motorway, one of Germany’s principal east-west transport corridors, the site offers strong connectivity across central Germany and into neighbouring European markets.

Ole Trumpfheller, Managing Director of Maersk Area Northern Europe Continent, said: “Herleshausen is the ideal location as a central hub for the flow of goods within Germany and into the neighboring European markets. Within the strong growth of our Contract Logistics Business this is the next addition to our warehouse footprint in Germany and continues to support our Integrator focus.”
The warehouse is expected to create between 300 and 400 permanent jobs once fully ramped up, with staffing rising to as many as 1,000 during the October-to-December peak season for online retail. The site currently employs 150 people, with recruitment ongoing.
