A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has entered into an agreement to sell Maersk Training and its subsidiary, Maersk H2S Safety Services, to private equity firm OpenGate Capital.
The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals and is expected to complete later in 2026. Until then, Maersk Training will continue to operate as part of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, with no immediate changes expected for employees, customers or partners.
Maersk said the transaction forms part of its continued focus on developing its strategic brands, while recognising the position Maersk Training and Maersk H2S Safety Services have established in their respective markets.
Maersk Training has operated for more than four decades, providing specialist training, competence development and safety services across the maritime, energy, renewables and logistics sectors. Its services are focused on operational risk, workforce safety and competency development.
Katharina Poehlmann, Head of Strategy at A.P. Moller – Maersk and Chairwoman of Maersk Training, said: “Maersk Training has built a strong business with highly skilled colleagues, trusted customer relationships and a solid foundation for future growth. We believe this transaction will enable Maersk Training to continue developing under an owner with training, safety and competency solutions as a key focus area, creating new opportunities for customers, employees and the business alike.”
Maersk H2S Safety Services, which is included in the transaction, provides gas detection and safety services for the offshore and onshore energy industries.
OpenGate Capital is a global private equity company headquartered in New York and Paris. According to Maersk Training, the firm has completed more than 40 platform acquisitions across Europe and North America since it was established in 2005.
David Skov, CEO of Maersk Training, said: “This is an important milestone for Maersk Training. The agreement recognises the strong business we have built together over the past 40+ years. While many of us are proud of our Maersk heritage, we are equally excited about the opportunities this next chapter brings under an owner that has experience in unlocking long-term value and will enable our strategic focus.
“Until the transaction closes, our focus remains unchanged: serving our customers, supporting one another and delivering on our commitments and ambitions.”
The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction. Maersk Training said operations will continue as usual while the deal proceeds through the closing and regulatory approval process.
