The UK government announced plans to ban British companies from providing maritime services such as shipping and insurance for Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
According to Reuters, this measure is intended to curb revenue flows to the Kremlin as part of support for Ukraine.
The ban will be introduced in phases throughout 2026, in coordination with European partners.
The announcement follows EU sanctions that will prohibit Russian LNG imports from 1 January 2027.
In addition, the UK pledged £13 million ($17.5 million) in funding to assist Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and support vulnerable citizens facing heating and power shortages.
