MPC Container Ships ASA (MPCC) has signed contracts with Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. in China to build four 4,500 TEU container vessels, with deliveries starting in the first half of 2028.
Each vessel is priced at $58 million, with options for two additional ships at the same cost. All vessels will operate under 10-year time charters, with extension options, for a leading global liner company.
The design and commercial structure were developed in collaboration with the charterer to match their network, operational profile, and sustainability goals.
The initial charter period is expected to generate roughly $375 million in revenue and $242 million in EBITDA.
The vessels will incorporate advanced energy-efficient technologies, cutting slot costs by around 50 per cent compared with similar-sized ships.

The investment supports MPCC’s fleet renewal, enhancing efficiency, environmental compliance, and reducing regulatory exposure.
The project will be financed through a balanced mix of equity and debt, maintaining financial flexibility and a prudent capital structure.
Constantin Baack, MPCC CEO, said: “This initiative advances our fleet renewal strategy. Thanks to the teams on both sides for their cooperation, we have secured 10 newbuilds with attached charters this year, strengthening strategic customer relationships and supporting long-term shareholder value.”
