Naturgy and Enagás, through the subsidiary Scale Green Energy, have agreed to construct and operate a new LNG bunkering vessel, the ‘Mistral LNG’, to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) and BioLNG to vessels across the Iberian Peninsula.
The vessel, under construction since early 2026, will have a cargo capacity of 18,900 cubic metres (m³), a dual-fuel engine, a service speed of 13 knots, and a range of more than 4,500 nautical miles.
Scale Green Energy will operate the vessel, which will be chartered by Naturgy in 2028 under a long-term agreement.
The ‘Mistral LNG’ will primarily serve the Iberian market, with additional operations around the Strait of Gibraltar, the Canary Islands, and other Atlantic destinations.
The vessel is designed with advanced technology to optimise efficiency and minimise emissions.

With this project, Naturgy strengthens its position in the Iberian LNG bunkering market, supporting the growth of sustainable maritime fuels.
Enagás, through Scale Green Energy, adds the new vessel to its existing fleet — Levante LNG, Alisios LNG, and Haugesund Knutsen — consolidating its role in southern Europe’s LNG supply network.
Spain’s seven regasification plants are already adapted for bunkering, with Barcelona, Cartagena, Huelva, and Gijón providing BioLNG to vessels.
The initiative aligns with growing demand for alternative fuels and upcoming European regulations on maritime emissions. LNG and BioLNG currently offer the most immediate reduction in pollutants, cutting 100 per cent of SOX, 80–90 per cent of NOX, and 25 per cent of CO2 compared with conventional fuels.
Use of LNG as a maritime fuel in Spain could reduce around 2 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030, equivalent to putting more than 1 million electric vehicles on the road.
