Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, has announced that Norse Ship Management will install NexusWave on one of its bulk carriers, marking a step forward in the shipping firm’s digitalisation strategy.
The order was arranged in collaboration with Inmarsat’s distribution partner Station Satcom.
The solution aims to meet increasing demands for both crew welfare and operational connectivity across Norse Ship Management’s fleet.
NexusWave reportedly enables secure and steady access to shore-based systems, real-time engine monitoring, and other critical applications, while also providing seafarers with unlimited data and global coverage for reliable internet use.

Capt. Akshay Yadava, Managing Director of Norse Ship Management, stated: “Crew welfare is our top priority, and providing a home-like internet experience onboard is increasingly vital to keeping our crews happy and motivated.
“With growing traffic demands on the commercial side and the need to ensure consistent, high-speed connectivity, we have selected NexusWave to upgrade our current system. We look forward to a continued successful collaboration with Station Satcom.”
At the core of NexusWave is its network bonding technology, which allows applications to combine the bandwidth of multiple networks simultaneously. This approach enhances reliability and performance compared with relying on a single network connection.

Inmarsat Maritime highlighted that the roll-out forms part of a wider industry trend towards connected shipping and digital efficiencies.
Justin Yi, Regional Director, Inmarsat Maritime, said: “Norse Ship Management’s decision to adopt NexusWave highlights its forward-thinking approach to digitalisation, with a clear commitment to enhancing crew welfare and operational efficiency. We extend our thanks to Station Satcom for its expert support in successfully delivering this deployment.”
Looking ahead, Inmarsat confirmed that NexusWave will be upgraded with access to the ViaSat-3 Ka-band network, a next-generation broadband system designed to provide even greater capacity and higher speeds for maritime customers.
