Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) Line, together with Ocean Yield AS, has signed multiple long-term charters with Cheniere Marketing International LLP, a subsidiary of US LNG producer Cheniere Energy, for new LNG carriers to be delivered from 2028.
The vessels will be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea and feature 200,000 cubic metres (m³) membrane-type tanks with advanced insulation, X-DF2.1 iCER dual-fuel engines with VCR technology, and re-liquefaction systems to optimise boil-off gas usage.
These are the first LNG carriers NYK has chartered under a long-term agreement with Cheniere.
The ships measure approximately 295 metres in length and 49 metres in breadth, powered by next-generation X-DF2.1 iCER engines with VCR systems, combining fuel efficiency and methane emission reduction technologies, and are being constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
NYK said the contracts align with its medium-term plan “Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026,” which focuses on sustainable growth and co-creating value in global logistics ahead of its 2030 corporate vision.
In December 2025, NYK Bulkship Pte. Ltd., part of the NYK Group in Singapore, signed two heads of agreement with JERA Co., Inc. for time-charter contracts covering ammonia carriers.
