The Panama Canal and Florida International University (FIU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in areas such as global trade, logistics, sustainability, water management, and public policy.
The signing ceremony took place at the Panama Canal Administration Building, attended by Jose Ramón Icaza Clement, Minister for Canal Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors; Ricaurte Vásquez Morales, Panama Canal Administrator; and Jeanette M. Núñez, President of FIU.
The FIU delegation also visited the Miraflores Locks to observe canal operations firsthand.
Jana Allen, from the Panama Canal’s Vice Presidency for Labour Relations, underscored the importance of the partnership, highlighting the shared dedication to education, innovation, and public service.

Administrator Vásquez noted that education and research are key to sustainable development, while President Núñez emphasised the value of partnerships that advance research, innovation, and regional growth.
The agreement establishes a framework for academic collaboration, research, and knowledge exchange between the two institutions, supporting talent development and professional training in strategic fields.
Through this partnership, the Panama Canal reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation and knowledge as essential drivers of sustainable development in Panama and beyond.
