Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) has suspended the requirement for valid certificates and documents needed to issue or renew navigation licences, and work permits for marine units for 30 days, with the option to extend.

The measure applies to both Saudi and foreign vessels operating in the Kingdom’s territorial waters in the Arabian Gulf, provided safety and environmental protection are not compromised.

The decision aims to support continuity of maritime operations and maintain smooth activity across Saudi waters amid current conditions.

The exemption covers vessels involved in maritime operations and projects that may be unable to leave territorial waters to complete technical requirements or undergo inspections elsewhere.

TGA said the temporary measure is intended to maintain safe and efficient operations, improve flexibility, and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.

The move comes as marine insurers tighten war-risk coverage for vessels operating in the Gulf amid escalating concerns over maritime security and the safety of commercial shipping.
