Soya IT Marine Solutions has been contracted to upgrade communication systems on 41 Wallenius Wilhelmsen vessels, including new satellite equipment, data management systems, and 24/7 support.
Installations are carried out through remote management, allowing antennas and hardware to be shipped to any port and installed by the crew without operational downtime.
The solution uses four connectivity systems to maintain stable connections globally. The project, which began in April 2025, is scheduled for completion by mid-2026.
Thomas Bergefall, Vice President Group IS/IT at Soya Group, said: “The installation requires no operational downtime, which saves both time and money for our customers. The new communication solution secures future digital development and enables real-time data transfer, as well as expansion with additional cybersecurity solutions.”

Adriana Briseno, Fleet Connectivity Engineer at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, added: “With the new solution, we get a robust, redundant connection that improves communication between ship and shore, strengthens operational capabilities, and enhances the working environment for the crew.”
Two proof-of-concept tests in October 2024 demonstrated a redundant, high-capacity solution, improving onboard Wi-Fi and enabling real-time data exchange and more efficient use of sensor data.
With this upgrade, Soya IT Marine Solutions now delivers IT services to around 70 vessels, covering onboard systems, cybersecurity, satellite communications, and support.
The company is part of Soya Group and specialises in IT solutions for shipowners and managers.
