Wan Hai Lines marks delivery of first 7,000 TEU newbuild
Wan Hai Lines held the naming ceremony for WAN HAI 711 at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

Ivy Tang, spouse of Hua Chen-Zuo, performed the christening rituals, blessing the vessel for safe voyages and good fortune.

WAN HAI 711 is the first of a two-ship series of 7,000 TEU containerships, scheduled for delivery in early February and set to operate on Wan Hai Lines’ Far East–Mediterranean Service 1.

The vessels, 272  metres (m) long with a 42.8 m beam and 15 m draft, feature eco-friendly designs including bow wind deflectors and stern energy-saving devices to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The company has grown its fleet from 92 to 124 vessels over the past five years, doubling capacity from 290,000 TEU to around 600,000 TEU.

With 35 newbuilds scheduled for delivery under its ongoing expansion programme, Wan Hai Lines aims to enhance route coverage, schedule reliability, and shipping service quality.

In December 2025, MISC Berhad and China Offshore Engineering & Technology Company Limited (China Offshore) received Approval in Principle from the American Bureau of Shipping for their pioneering Ammonia Floating Production Storage and Offloading design.
