Wärtsilä will equip Molslinjen’s third battery-electric catamaran ferry with a fully integrated electric propulsion system and waterjets, advancing the operator’s move toward net-zero ferry operations.
The vessel is under construction at Incat Tasmania, which is building all three ships in the series.

Wärtsilä’s scope covers the integrated electric propulsion system, DC power conversion, energy management and automation systems, eight electric propulsion motors, waterjets, and the Wärtsilä ProTouch propulsion control system, designed for smooth, efficient operation.

Each ferry will measure 129 metres in length and 30.5 metres in width, carrying up to 1,483 passengers and 500 cars. The vessels will serve the Kattegat route and are expected to join Molslinjen’s Danish fleet between 2027 and 2028.

The electric waterjet configuration offers shallow draft operation, low maintenance, superb manoeuvrability, and high overall propulsion efficiency.
Dividing power across multiple jets reduces power density, increasing efficiency, while integrated steering and reversing ensure responsive handling. Wärtsilä’s equipment for the third vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2027.
