Wärtsilä unveils advanced maritime simulator platform
Wärtsilä has introduced NTPRO 7, a next-generation bridge and ship-handling simulator aimed at strengthening maritime training as vessel operations become increasingly digitalised and complex.

The platform represents the latest evolution of Wärtsilä’s long-running navigational simulation system and is designed to support advanced ship-handling, navigation and decision-making training across a wide range of operational scenarios.

It has received a Statement of Compliance from DNV, confirming its suitability for navigation training applications.

Johan Ekvall, Director, Simulation & Training, Wärtsilä Marine, said: “The requirements placed on maritime training are evolving rapidly as vessel technologies, digital navigation standards and regulatory expectations continue to advance.

“NTPRO 7 is designed to help training institutions and academies prepare crews for these changes by providing a future‑ready simulation environment that mirrors modern bridge operations and supports long‑term competence development.”

A central feature of NTPRO 7 is its RealSea visualisation, built on Unreal Engine 5, combined with an upgraded audio system to create a high-fidelity operational environment.

The simulator also introduces updated conning and overhead displays aligned with contemporary shipboard systems, alongside S-100-ready digital navigation training incorporating Wärtsilä Navi-Sailor ECDIS technology.

The system further integrates AI-enabled training tools, including a Virtual Watchkeeper with voice command recognition, and expanded vessel models supporting Wind Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS) training. These functions are designed to support instructor-led training and decision-making exercises across varied operational conditions.

NTPRO 7 is available in scalable configurations, ranging from full-mission bridge simulators to classroom-based systems, allowing training institutions to deliver structured instruction without operational risk while adapting to emerging vessel technologies.

Following two years of testing and validation, Wärtsilä NTPRO 7 will be commercially available from May 2026.

Recently, Wärtsilä upgraded its four-stroke ammonia-fuelled engine solution, increasing its power rating as part of ongoing development of alternative fuel propulsion systems.
