WAVE launches to accelerate vessel decarbonisation
Alpha Marine Consulting, Lomar, MARIN and C-Job Naval Architects have launched WAVE to integrate and validate emerging decarbonisation technologies for commercial vessels.

The alliance will reportedly focus on technologies at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 3-7, where solutions have demonstrated technical potential but still require integration, testing and operational evidence before reaching wider market adoption.

WAVE aims to address a key challenge for technology developers: moving solutions from laboratory or controlled environments into working vessels.

The alliance will provide expertise covering marine engineering, naval architecture, vessel design, technical integration and independent validation.

It will also identify public and private funding opportunities to support pilot installations and onboard testing.

For shipowners, the initiative is intended to provide a structured route to assess and deploy emerging technologies while reducing the technical and financial risks associated with early-stage adoption.

Alpha Marine Consulting will contribute marine engineering, naval architecture, technical integration and supervision expertise, while Lomar Labs will provide a shipowner perspective, operational experience and support for technology start-ups through its parent company, Lomar.

Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) will provide research, assessment and validation capabilities, while C-Job Naval Architects will support vessel design and onboard technology integration.

The organisations will assess technologies individually and determine appropriate integration and validation pathways based on their maturity, technical requirements and relevance to maritime industry challenges.

Georgios Kouris, R&D Manager, Alpha Marine Consulting, said: “Innovation creates real value when it moves beyond concept and becomes part of everyday vessel operations. Through WAVE, we aim to bridge that critical gap, connecting research and emerging technologies with practical onboard integration, validation, and operational experience.

“AMC is delighted to contribute to this initiative, drawing on the practical know how gained from more than 250 newbuilding projects and over 400 vessel retrofits to help turn emerging technologies into viable, integrated solutions for real-world vessel operations,”

Job Volwater, CEO, C-Job Naval Architects, stated: “The maritime industry needs a faster path from innovation to implementation. WAVE brings together the expertise needed to help promising technologies move from concept to proven solutions that support shipping’s decarbonisation journey. C-Job Naval Architects is proud to contribute our world-class ship design and engineering capabilities to help accelerate the transition to cleaner, more efficient shipping.”
