ZERO44 has launched a Carbon Insetting module designed to help ship operators manage FuelEU Maritime compliance and carbon insetting decisions through a single platform.
ZERO44’s module uses existing Bunker Delivery Note and Proof of Sustainability data to calculate the value of fuel volumes against both FuelEU compliance surpluses and insetting certificates.
Operators can allocate fuel volumes to insetting, with the system automatically deducting those volumes from the vessel’s FuelEU compliance balance. This is intended to ensure that the remaining compliance surplus is accurately reflected when reporting.
The platform also uses current FuelEU surplus and insetting prices to show the respective value of each option.

Friederike Hesse, Co-Founder and Managing Director, ZERO44, said: “Every tonne of low-carbon fuel an operator buys is money that can come back through FuelEU surplus or through insetting, but rarely both at the same value. Our customers can now see, for every bunkering event, which route pays more today and act on it. That turns a cost they were already carrying into revenue they were leaving on the table.”
The module is being used by a global operator alongside 123Carbon, an independent carbon insetting registry and ZERO44 integration partner.
