UK-based shipping firm Zodiac Maritime has welcomed the addition of a cutting-edge, dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) to its fleet.
Delivered last month by China’s Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd, the vessel boasts a remarkable capacity of approximately 7,000 cars, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation and environmentally responsible operations.
Stretching the length of two football pitches, this advanced PCTC is equipped with dual-fuel technology allowing it to operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional fuel oil.
This propulsion flexibility supports lower emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphur oxides (SOx), aligning with global efforts to reduce shipping’s environmental impact.
The newbuild represents the ninth of 10 similar vessels Zodiac Maritime is scheduled to receive from Yantai CIMC Raffles, underscoring the company’s ongoing investment in efficient and sustainable maritime logistics.
Prior to delivery, the ship successfully completed rigorous sea trials designed to assess and verify the performance of all key systems. Zodiac Maritime explained: “During a sea trial, a vessel is taken into open waters for rigorous assessment of its performance and to verify that all major systems are functioning as intended.
“This includes testing the engine, steering, navigation systems, alarms, safety equipment, blackout recovery, anchor operations, and much more!”
The trial is witnessed by relevant classification authorities who confirm compliance with required rules. Such thorough testing ensures the ship not only meets operational expectations but also aligns with safety and environmental regulations.
